Im Interview | Maritime auf den Zahn gefühlt

Anlässlich des neuen Albums „Human Hearts“ von Maritime, haben wir der amerikanischen Band einmal auf den Zahn gefühlt. Wie wir bereits bei unserem Albumcheck angekündigt haben, standen uns die Guys von Maritime Rede und Antwort. Ihr solltet jedoch die englische Sprache beherrschen. Wir haben uns nun nicht die Mühe gemacht, das Interview zu übersetzen, da es sonst an Authentizität verlieren könnte. Aber wir glauben, wir können euch das als Leser ruhig zumuten.

Also hier gehts los!

Albumcheck: Maritime was formed at 2003. But when did you first start making music?

Davey von Bohlen: Sometime in 2001. Dan and I were in England recording the last Promise Ring record when we started to make music on the weekends while we had free time. I don’t think we knew it, but those were the very first Maritime songs.

Albumcheck: At first your band called „In English“. Why did you change the name of the band?

Davey von Bohlen: Dan and I started making songs by ourselves, so when we became a full group it felt right to start fresh with a new name that we could all be happy with.

Albumcheck: What kind of music influences you?

Justin Klug: A little bit of everything, I guess. We all listen to vastly different kinds of music, but at the same time we agree on plenty as well. I don’t think there’s one or two genres that really influence us specifically. That’s the beauty of music, it always says different things to different people.

Albumcheck: So, just talk about your new Album. Where did you get the ideas for „Human hearts“?

Dan Didier: Our ideas come from each of us all being in the same room with our instruments bouncing things off one another.

Albumcheck: Your last album „Heresy and the Hotel Choir“ was released in 2007. So, you just needed four years to release „Human Hearts“. Why?

Justin Klug: The biggest reason for the length between records has just been the fact that we all have young families and our commitments to them take up a majority of our time. Also, not having a label asking for another record also probably helped us to not feel any sort of urgency to produce.

Albumcheck: What’s your song writing process?

Davey von Bohlen: We usually start with a very basic skeleton of a song, and then construct it. Generally the skeleton falls apart as we find something we like more from it, and it becomes the stem of the song.

Albumcheck: What do you think? Whats the message or intension of the album?

Dan Didier: There really wasn’t any real preconcieved notion in the writing of this record. It is just the accumulation of the last four years of our lives.

Albumcheck: What’s your favourite song on „Human Hearts“. (I really love: „It’s casual“ and „Paraphernalia“ )

Justin Klug: I think „Peopling of London“ is my favorite.

Albumcheck: When you are on tour in Germany?

Davey von Bohlen: Whenever we can make it happen, with our lives, jobs, families and Germany.

Albumcheck: In the end, let’s make some shortcuts, ( like I usually do in my interviews) I tell you two diffrent things and you tell me what you prefer. Ready?
